Sally Ride Festival
The Sally Ride Festival is held at UCSD to encourage the interest of female students in math and science.
Since 2005, Team 812 has participated in this event by having a group of our own female students be presenters
in several workshops, interacting with other students and inspiring them to be engineers. We also provided an
informational booth where students could sign up for our workshops.
The workshops we conducted was called "From Towers to Robots: If We can Build It, You Can Too!". The purpose
of the workshop was to introduce the female participants to the structural designing and to FIRST Robotics. It was
highly satisfying to our team members when we saw how enthusiastic the girls were about FIRST.
In addition to our presenters, other business and engineering organizations were also at the festival with our
similar goal. We went to many of the booths and talked to them about FIRST and answer there many questions about FIRST.
We invited participants and businesses to our Team San Diego Scrimmage.
