The Monarch School
Located in Downtown, San Diego, the Monarch School provides homeless children and teens aplace to receive education
and basic necessities such as food and clothes. The students here are considered "last in line" regarding educational
opportunities. The Midnight Mechanics, who also come from disadvantaged backgrounds, have a need to share our good fortunes
as FIRST participants with the Monarch School students.
Team 812 has opened a network between The Preuss School UCSD and the Monarch School that is helping these students become
successful. We are currently working on establishing a FIRST LEGO League team a the Monarch School. Getting the younger students
in FIRST creates the foundation for a possible FIRST Robotics team. Mentored by the Midnight Mechanics, Monarch students recieve
the title of Mini Mechanics.
The VEX program is for older Monarch students, and it gives them a jump into FIRST without having to buy costly machinery and
parts. We are working with UCSD to open the resources that Team 812 has to Monarch students so they can have access to college
mentors, machine shopes, internships, and other supports. We are committed to giving the Monarch School all the opportunities
and aid that we have been lucky to recieve.
