WHAT IS FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a multinational robotics competition program that engages over 30,000+ students in math, science, and technology. For the FIRST website, visit http://usfirst.org/
Each year, beginning in January, FIRST releases a new “challenge.” Students are then given six weeks and a standard kit of parts to design, build, wire, and program a robot according to that challenge. >> more
This year's game is Ultimate Ascent! An animation video of this year's game can be found below:
TEAM 812, THE MIDNIGHT MECHANICS
San Diego, California
Team 812, the Midnight Mechanics, is a team of bright, high school students participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) at the Preuss School at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Entering our eleventh year, we are a veteran team known for our intense, quirky students whose faces are painted with moons and stars and whose passion for FIRST transcends just building robots.
Engaging students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, Team 812 engages students in a rigorous, six-week build season where we construct a full-functioning robot that competes in the annual FRC challenge. After the infamous build season, our students go on to compete against other FRC teams at several FIRST regionals around the nation.
Team 812 does not just build robots. We also build innovators, communicators, and entrepreneurs. Our team, modeled after successful engineering corporations, aims to equip students with skills that will make them leaders in the engineering community.
Since our conception in 2005, we continue to spread the FIRST message through establishing nationally recognized programs to instill in our community a greater appreciation for math, science, and technology. >> more
